What you need to know.

Fiber cement — specifically James Hardie HardiePlank — is the premium material for homeowners who want siding that will outlast the current ownership of the house. It is made of Portland cement, cellulose fibers, and sand — fire-resistant, dimensionally stable in extreme temperature swings, and completely insect-proof.

The ColorPlus finish is baked on at the factory in a controlled environment that no field paint can match. HardiePlank is heavier than vinyl, requires experienced crews to install, and costs more to buy and install than vinyl — but when it is installed right, the result holds up for decades with nothing more than an annual rinse-off.

Who this is for

  • Colonials, Victorians, and architecturally detailed homes.
  • Owners who want a crisper shadow line and premium finish.
  • Long-hold properties where fire, insect, and dimensional stability matter.

Not for

  • Projects where cost is the primary driver — premium vinyl delivers much of the look for a smaller investment.
  • Crews without Hardie-specific installation experience.

Material and method

What makes it different.

Installation controls the warranty.

SJCC crews install to Hardie's published installation instructions — including blind-nailing, correct fastener spacing, factory-approved butt joints with H-clips or 2x splice flashing, and strict overhang requirements.

Factory finish.

ColorPlus is applied and cured under controlled factory conditions for a finish field painting cannot duplicate.

Stable and noncombustible.

The cement-and-fiber composition resists insects, fire, and the expansion swings common to less stable materials.

Written protection

Warranty.

  • James Hardie's written warranties on the ColorPlus finish and the siding material — we show you the current terms before you sign.
  • SJCC workmanship warranty on installation — the exact term is printed in your contract.
