The deeper answer
What changes the decision.
Weather affects the sequencing more than the finished siding. A professional crew opens only the amount of wall it can protect, watches the forecast, and keeps materials covered and staged. Dry sheathing is easier to inspect, repair, and wrap. Longer daylight gives the crew more time to close an elevation before cleanup.
Temperature also affects materials. Vinyl expands and contracts, so nailing and panel spacing must account for the conditions during installation. Paint, caulk, sealant, flashing tapes, and some adhesives have minimum application temperatures. The manufacturer instructions — not habit — should control whether a product can be installed that day.
Winter work is not automatically bad work. It simply demands tighter planning, compatible products, and realistic production expectations. A small repair may fit a clear winter window. A full tear-off on a large two-story home deserves a reliable stretch of weather and a crew plan for rapid dry-in.
If you want a peak-season date, schedule the estimate early enough for measurement, material selection, ordering, permit needs, and delivery. Vinyl commonly arrives in 2–3 weeks, SmartSide in 2–4 weeks, and HardiePlank in 3–5 weeks, with custom colors potentially taking longer.
